The Canyon Explorer Series is Canyon Records special collection of music beyond Native American music. Canyon Explorer Classical presents classical music influenced by Native American music forms, melodies and structures as well as the standard classical repertoire performed by Native Americans. Classical music is a growing genre within the Native American community and the leader for the past twenty-five years has been R. Carlos Nakai who has released four albums featuring the compositions of James DeMars. R. Carlos Nakai has performed the Native American flute as a soloist with over twenty symphonies including the Philadelphia Orchestra. Canyon’s newest addition is guitarist Gabriel Ayala who performs masterworks for the classical guitar.
